Antofagasta de la Aventura Ep 10

Saturday, a first rest day here!
but it's not really a total rest day...
as I was required to spend an hour of providing training...
and after that, visit of Antofagasta town!
we began with La Portada...
sea breeze of the pacific ocean..
finally, I can proudly say...
I am in Chile!
and straight to the mall after that as there's isn't much place of interest over Antofagasta...
of course, a proper meal is a must!
lime margarita as the beverage...
onion ring as the appetizer...
baby ribs as main course!
upon lunch and minor shopping for snack...
and all the way back to Mejillones...
did not have dinner for the day...
just a coffee and sea view...
 that marks my rest day...

Antofagasta de la Aventura Ep 9

finally, STG is completed!
and these two days are so eventful!
Friday is the day for load test...
however was asked to commission overhead crane for BFP...
as for lunch, this!
bibimbap again!
and after that, load test!
passed!
as for the night, there's an event held in Antofagasta...
something like a year-end dinner...
well, for your information, the town that I am staying in is called as Mejillones...
and it's 1 hour away from Antofagasta town...
and this is the venue of the event...
I can't remember the name but this hotel is nice!
I believe this is a high class hotel judging from its design...
and this is the dinner hall...
non-different that those in Malaysia...
as from the balcony...
day view...
night view...
as for the view, it's a 3 course...

appetizer...
main course...
dessert...
but the highlight of tonight is red wine...
Chile is known of its red wine...
to be frank, I don't fancy red wine but I give it a like this time... :)
cheers!
as for Friday, it's just clearing the punch-list of STG...
the highlight of the day is the dinner!
Korean BBQ!
and this time, I am not alone...
but with Posco mechanical team!
and that's not the end...
we had a 2nd round in one of their rooms...
according to them, this can only be found in Latin-America country...
well, it's nice to drink it with Cola...
but venue is switched to the singing room because his neighbor is sick so there's a need of rest...
and there's where all the fun begin!
drink and sing!
stress is released!
maybe is because of the gantry crane is done!
guess it's time to say good night for now...
as I am tired because I had a short trip to Antofagasta town again since today I am not required to work...
however, I will be working on tomorrow...
so let's hope the good thing continues!

Antofagasta de la Aventura Ep 8

finally, we passed the function test!
for the past few days, sleepless and stress!
and by why it is able to function totally rather than having the problem of previous days...
it is due to incompetency!
basically, language was the main problem but somehow, there's also another element...
uneducated...
well, I am not saying about whether are or aren't them are degree holder...
I am just saying they have no knowledge on cranes...
therefore I had been climbing up and down for uncountable times!
besides, had been spending days outdoor...
and of course with sunblock applied as well...
but I don't know why am I this dark?
but I am very relieved that finally it is running...
just that another pending issue is that the limitation of hoisting...
one final task to go for this gantry crane!
and of course, Wednesday, hot pot night!
well, the main focus is not the hot pot but the below...
bottomless soju!
basically, it's kind of stress drinking with the Koreans...
they have law on drinking soju...
one should not pour into your cup yourself...
it's shows that your dinner partner is impolite...
and also, do not let the cup of your partner stay empty...
you cannot drink alone if there's a dinner partner...
when pouring, if you are older, one hand...
in contrast if you are younger, two hands...
as for the cup being poured, if you are older, one hand and of course two hands if you are younger...
well. just a comment from me...
喝酒都酱麻烦... =.=
as for today today, we will be having the load test...
so all the best today for today!
buena suerte!

Antofagasta de la Aventura Ep 7

after 3 days, it's about 80% completed...
it should have been completed yesterday but there's strong wind on 2nd part of my work so we are required to return to ground level...
but I believe by today I can finish commissioned fully my 1st gantry crane abroad...
and for 2 days consecutively, it's a morning post as I am too tired...
maybe a short one today...
of course, mandatory, 3 meals...
breakfast...
lunch...
dinner...
but I followed Mr. Choi back to the camp instead of going with the shuttle bus...
as I need to get the lotion for my skin...
another Korean followed us as he can speak Spanish very well...
and we had a local snack before heading back...
the named it as Espanda...
the is the inner part...
basically I don't know what the inner part is...
finally, manage to capture the main street of this small town...
nothing difference from a typical Malaysian town...
anyway, it's time to work...
I am looking forward for a great day ahead!

Antofagasta de la Aventura Ep 6

was so tired yesterday!
physically and mentally!
well, finally a non-Kim Chi breakfast for me!
just a ham sandwich and that's it!
and again of too work!
was not feeling okay physically as the inability of me to speak Spanish causes me to climb up and down for quite a number of times!
and besides, stomach upset when I was right on top of the crane so I guess I beat the Olympic record by climbing down from the gantry and rush to the toilet... :D
and then, of for lunch!
well, for Korean, rice is essential...
whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner...
and there must be a minimum of 4 dishes with Kimchi and seaweed are mandatory... :D
as for 2nd half of the session, it is just continuous troubleshooting and rectifying of the gantry crane...
seriously, up until now, it is a nice experience as there are different kind of problem occurred...
and the feeling of solving it, is like...
marvelous!
and all the way back to the camp!
again, it's overtime today!
Choi brought me to get some snack and beer... :D
after a hardwork day...
well, 1st taste of local beer, the blue one but do not really into it...
may be the red one is okay...
and then, dinner!
well, it's time to bath and wish I can solve all the issue today!

Antofagasta de la Aventura Ep 5

as expected, today is the deadliest day so far!
but before that...
breakfast!
and then, all the way to the site...
kick start the troubleshoot and found out that I had too high expectation of the workers here...
everything is not in order!
and then, it's lunch...
well, it's always stress having lunch with the Korean as they can eat very fast...
the reason is because it's their culture whereby one should not eat slower than their boss...
if not there'll be negative perception on the particular employee...
so I finish my lunch in like 10 minutes too... =.=
and back to site for the afternoon session...
with high hope that everything will be alright...
but again, it's the same because of some undisclosed issue!
to summarize, everything should be done correctly at the very 1st place!
spend hours troubleshooting and again, work was stopped because there are lifting activity around...
while standing besides the platform...
the scenery is so beautiful... :)
and it's all the way back to the camp...
and Kimchi meal as dinner...
and a shower...
that marked my day...
hopefully everything can be solved tomorrow!

Antofagasta de la Aventura Ep 4

this morning was marvelous!
I forgotten my belt and I walked back straight to my room...
upon coming out, this appeared in front of me...
sun rise in Antofagasta!
all the way to site...
but again, power supply is not available...
spent the whole morning doing nothing and felt so sleepy...
out of the sudden, Mr. Choi said...
'Eddy, are you okay if we conduct the operation training in 20 minutes time?'
awake right away!
and after that, positive sign shown as we will have the power supply in the afternoon...
and yes, we got it after hours of argument and by the time I had it, it was nearly 5pm...
basically stood at the site looking at people working on this and that...
argue on matters regarding the gantry crane...
basically, it is not organised at all!
but I am not in a position to comment as I am just a vendor supervisor...
what I can is assist the contractor in terms of technical clarification...
sadly, no one understand English well...
and when the power supply is available, Q102 tripped!
due to that, I will have to work on Sunday!
of course with all those argument, my departure from site today was delayed too!
7pm but good from the bad is...
I managed to capture the scenery of Antofagasta!
and now, it's about time to sleep and hopefully, by tomorrow I will be able to get the gantry crane running...
good night and...
I am having you in my sight!

Antofagasta de la Aventura Ep 3

1st working Friday abroad!
previously it was Middle East country whereby Friday is a non-working day...
upon breakfast, it's all the way to site as we are racing against time today with the main agenda, to finish the load test!
however, I was disappointed with the actual site condition as there were outstanding activities to be completed!
for me, is as if there's no progress from the previous day...
and the join a meeting which is conducted in Spanish...
and there's a situation which I want to clarify that the obtain of maximum deflection of overhead crane got nothing to do with the load...
fortunately a Korean joined the meeting and surprisingly, he knows Spanish...
however, those inspector does not want to consider our opinion and thus, the conclusion is the same...
and then, lunch time...
I had something different today...
Mr Choi told me that this is called as bibimbap...
rice is to be mixed with the vegetables...
and it became something like this...
taste good!
as for afternoon session, spent about 80% of my time at site supervising and of course, expediting the work!
but I can see that only a few parties would want to make the load test happen...
there's work which could be done simultaneously but no one is working on that...
and finally, at about 4:20pm, installation complete!
my task is the next one!
who knows, energizing of the crane is not approved...
there's nothing I can do...
other than selfie... :D
and back to the camp as usual since there's no load test...
was supposed to stay up until completion of load test...
and the dinner for today is...
Korean BBQ!
hopefully by tomorrow, I can really begin my work!
until then, good night!
