冲上Crane宵之终集篇 Countdown: 13 Days

Finally, another 13 days to go...
Physically, I am still having myself in the office daily from 830am, well, lately is 9am until 5pm sharp!
However, technically, I am not working anymore...
Spending my time in office with personal work with job seek, drama watch, game play and article read...
It's as if a life which is envied by spectators but deep down, I don't enjoy it at all!
Anyway, since there are 13 days to go so I will just share a story a day until my last day...
It was a Sunday late morning back then when I was having a last minute shopping before my departure to US for Work and Travel...
I received a call from a man named himself as Tung asking me to attend an interview and in my mind as a fresh undergraduate was like...
'OK, I will attend the interview!'...
and the next day if I am not mistaken, drove to the premise which I had never expect it would act as my 2nd home for the next 3 years...
I still can remember my initial thinking which I had shared in my blog previously...
'Am I going to work in such a place?'
And was brought to the conference room until someone who looked like him...
Walked in, not flew in... :D
The session last about 2-3 hours ended up with me being asked to contact him after my Work and Travel...
Also, I did mentioned to him do not reserve the place for me in case there are other candidate as at that moment, I do not really think that I am joining but I do not want to openly reject...
And after 3 months spend for the program, I found that there aren't a lot of job opening as it's approaching year end and I am kind of worried that I will be jobless...
As the nerve goes, I took every opportunity out there to grab a job as money is required hardly by me to return the loaned money for my Work and Travel!
And suddenly I recalled Excellift thus I emailed to ask for job availability and yes, I was offered a 2nd interview with Tung...
Upon return, I went to the same premise again...
However, something happened to his mum on the day and a person named as Kam, who is the general manager interviewed me and then...

Dear Mr. Ng Wei Kuo,

Thanks for attending the interview recently. I have pleasure to inform you that we have decided to accept your application for the position of Mechanical Engineer in our company.  Attached please find the offer letter. Kindly go through it and sign back one company to us.

Thanks and best regards,
M W Tung

There my story in Excellift began...

Last Day

'So Eddy, when is your last day?'
Well, contractual wise, it is supposed to be 8th June 2015 if there is no further leave taken...
However, the date is still something very subjective...
It was once 24th April, then end of April and maybe today?
Thus, to be exact, I have no idea when will be my last day...
Most of my colleagues had move to the new factory and now there are only 5 people in a once fully-filled engineering office...
And basically, I am doing nothing in the office...
Before this, I had a gentleman talk with my boss on early relieve with 2 key points...
1st, I clarified to him that do not think that it's harsh for asking me to leave early...
Besides, one should not hold any personal feeling in work, if he has...
2nd, there would not be any matter of money whereby I will only take up my salary up to the date of service but not the last day of my notification period...
And it will be a win win situation whereby he would not have me taking blind salary and I can start my new job...
Surprisingly, the answer I got was...
'Eddy, we need you to be here for a reason.  The reason is Kenny just took over from you about a week and if there's anything cropped out, you can still help out'
Well, my 1st thinking was since when that I am that important in your company?
And after coming out, I have even more thinking, the funny one I supposed...
There isn't only me who can help out...
When I was abroad, whereby there isn't any other active Service Engineer in my company, operation still goes as usual so I seriously do not know what is the reason of keeping me here...
On surface, it looked like I am very good now in terms of getting salary by just sitting in the office, but in fact it is quite suffering to sit from 8:30am until 5:00pm without doing anything...
This happened for about a month and a half and I will still required to endure this for like, 25 days?
Anyway, to sum up everything is that...
My official date of leaving Excellift Sdn Bhd is 8th June 2015...
Also, a half day will do... :D

2015 1st Quarter Report Part 2: Gathering

It's Monday and it's working day!
But for me, it's just like a holiday!
Basically, it's just Linkedin, Jobstreet and Malaysiakini, maybe Blogspot as well but nothing else...
However, did use my time wisely by reading relevant article, journal and catalog as preparation for next job...
Well, to be frank, up to today, nothing had been finalized...
But let's not talk about the serious topic...
For the 1st quarter of the year, we had holidays like the New Year, Chinese New Year, etc. and not forget, my birthday as well... :D
Had many 1st tries of the year in 2015, begins with a solo movie on 31st December 2014...
A last minute purchase but I still managed to obtain a good seat, situated right in the middle of two gangs of people... :)
as for Chinese New Year, went for many rounds of gathering with food...
started with a gathering with cousin...

And as usual, buffet steamboat where we can sit for all day long!
Total of participants increases but total number of cousin decreases...
Anyway, will have another one before Kim travels back to UK, hopefully... :D
For the rest, it's majority with my going-to-be ex-colleague...
Began with a company dinner at Amverton Cove Golf & Island Resort...
Which I was emcee for the 2nd part of the event and also got the runner up of the best dress event but to be frank, I just wore very simple so I assumed I won because of popularity vote... :p
Then, it was a dinner in Coconut Flower Restaurant which also served as Foo's farewell dinner...

Questions: The Drunken Masters!
Based on the picture above, please identify how many men are drunk... :D
and then again, another dinner in Seri Langat Restaurang which served as Foo's Farewell Dinner 2!

What he is holding is not rambutan and also, he is the one taking over my position...
And finally, my departmental lunch!
1st of my 3-years reign as service engineer which also turned to be my last one as their department superior...
Not sure will I be invited for the next one but at least, I had once!

That basically summed up all but one of my gatherings...
And the last one was this, a primary gathering with ended with...
很多咖啡...
Anyway, looking forward for the next one so, who?
Where?
When!

2015 1st Quarter Report Part 1: Resignation

Unbelievable!
I left my blog 4 months unattended and the last one I penned was in Chile!
Basically, enter 2015 as a married man but there isn't any major changes...
For the 1st three month, as usual, routine daily work...
Begins to stay in office more rather than going to site...
Which is what I don't prefer...
Personal wise, two more secondary friends got married which summed up to seven including myself with three more to come for the latter part of 2015!
That's show we are getting older! :D
The only major thing that happened to me is...
I had officially resigned as Service Engineer of Excellift Sdn Bhd on 12th March 2015!
Currently I am serving a 3-month notification period which include a transition of job to the one who will replace me...
As usual, people will ask me what is the reason behind my resignation and today, I would like to share it on my blog...
First and foremost, it will be time...
For your information, I am having a 5 1/2 days work and to be frank, I do not have quality time for myself, family and friends...
Moreover, the working time is irregular...
Although contract wise it was supposed to be from 0830 to 1700, in fact, you will have to work up to 1900, 2100 or even 2300 in order for task completion...
Upon marriage, I had tried to make sure a maximum of 1900 regardless completion of task which I found that it is not the right way anymore...
There might be causes of the long working hours but whether is because of heavy workload or personal efficiency, but I believe my decision of leaving this company will be a symbiosis as it will do good for the company to obtain a better personal and also for me to get a better employer...
Second will be point of view or to be precise, ways of work...
I found that there are a lot of difference in ways of work...
My boss often choose to going into detail of anything and everything...
As for myself, I choose to settle the thing in the shortest mean of time with respect of saving time for other job and there's the problem starts...
We always do not have final understanding on issues and it always ended with I saying...
'Okay, what do you want, please say, I will follow...'
And he will followed by saying, 'if everything I have to tell you, then it might as well I do myself and do not have to employ you?'
The so-called open minded as promised in my interview never been found throughout my three years reign as service engineer...
I might be inexperience and not knowledgeable but judging from so many cases, I believe only a Saint can be correct at all the times...
However, me and you aren't Saint so I believe there will be at least once which you are wrong...
But the fact is, none and the rich will always be the one owning the poor...
Anyway, 1+3=4 and 2+2=4, we do not have to prove one wrong to indicate that we are right...
So to summed up is that my development of career is no more a 2-way traffic and that's why I choose not to use this 'Jalan Sehala' anymore...
Third, direction of career...
As usual, a fresh graduate like me always looked up to someone who is wiser, knowledgeable for guidance...
For your information, I am a mechanical engineer and I can always remember the 1st goal that he said to me clearly in my mind...
'Eddy, although you are a mechanical engineer but you should put more effort in learning electrical parts and after two years, you should be able to do electrical site work'...
I joined this company on 3rd October 2011 and the very first when I was alone was on 8th April 2013...
Assuming my calculation is correct, it will be 18 months after my employment...
But when they were having a meeting in my boss room to choose a replacement for the going-to-resigned mechanical engineer for a local EPC project with major task of site installation...
I was asked into his room while walking pass his room from toilet and this is his say...
'Eddy, just for your information, we are selecting a site engineer to replace Wong but we never ever consider you, you get what I mean?'
From that onwards, I have a mind where I will be in 5 years time if he continued to be the No.1 in my company...
But one can't be so sentimental to resign once something like that happened...
In fact, we need to plan for the resign...
2014 is not a good year with my house renovation and marriage so my temporary way of doing is try not be temperament on what he say but sometimes it really failed... :D
So I choose to tender my resignation at the end of March 2015...
However, the real resignation came in a fortnight earlier than a planned one...
I was asked into my boss room again and being questioned on a breakdown which we already had a branch looking at it...
I was again being classified as a engineer who always only mind his own business and do not have the initiative to know happenings around...
And the very next day I handed my resignation letter...
Only to my disappointment, I was never asked to reconsider my resignation...
Mine lasted only about 15 minutes but other resignation talks of engineer that I had observed takes between 1-3 hours...
Perhaps I am that worthless to him or maybe he can sense that I am not going to stay anymore...
But whatever is it, this emphasizes that my decision to leave this company is correct...
Well, after all the official thing, I would like to clarify that I hate my boss as a boss, but personal wise, he is still a very kind old man which will helps his employee financially...
Whether is this a conspiracy in using money to control or not, but without the kindness, you would never help anyone...
So conclusion is, once again, I would like to officially announce that I, Eddy Ng is resigned from Excellift Sdn Bhd...

Antofagasta de la Aventura Finale

Bonjour!
finally, I am away from Chile!
and currently just touched down Paris about an hour ago...
and as usual, there is always something happened to my departure flight...
back in Kuwait, air craft was delayed but fortunately the connecting flight is from the same airline...
in Saudi, I was not able to claim my baggage...
in UAE, air craft was ready to go at runway only returned back to the depot area for inspection...
and this time, air craft problem again!
was so worried that I missed the connection!
moreover, flight attendant only know Spanish and I had a hard time explaining my situation...
fortunately, they got a ground staff to translate it!
anyhow it managed to take off after an hour and I rush like crazy fella in Santiago...
once check in, board directly! :D
but anyhow, I will have a 9 hours lapse over here...
basically, the last few days were so busy and tired!
anyway, I am glad that I was able to finish STG Crane and EOT Crane 1 before the end of this season, which is the minimum expectation of end user...
and therefore, managed to get only a 2nd day off and I stroll around the city of Mejilonnes...
and this is where I stayed throughout this 3 weeks...
and this is the small town of Mejilonnes...
there isn't a lot of people around...
as majority of the people working here are construction worker, thus they had return to their home for vacation...
and this is the football stadium...
seriously, I wandered about 1 hour but couldn't find a restaurant...
luckily I remember there is a hotel, which served as my landmark because of its height...
I managed to find my way to the main street...
but here is the menu... =.=
 in Spanish!
well, so I ordered a Churrasco Americano and Cafe...
and inside, we have egg, ham and I think beef as well... :D
and everything for 4100 Chilean pesos...
continue to stroll along the main street...
and also, to the nearby beach...
the sea water is clear but I don't like the sand...
about 15 minutes of sea breeze, off I went to the main street again...
there are some minor decorations over here...
maybe there is minor celebration but unfortunately, my flight is on the Christmas eve...
as on my way back, finally I managed to see the descriptions of this sign...
it is the evacuation route if there's a tsunami...
and I was so lucky!
while on my way back, for your information, from Posco camp to Mejilonnes town takes 30-40 minutes walk excluding selfie time...
so a Korean stop by and ask if I am back in Spanish so of course I don't understand...
and fortunately there's a Chilean translated it and thus, from a 30 minutes walk, it turned to be a 2 minutes drive... :D
as for the night, we had a BBQ dinner!
I guess it served as the year end party for everyone...
as usual, beer, meet, wine, etc.!
and that marked the end of my Chile trip...
the end of Antofagasta de la Aventura

Antofagasta de la Aventura Ep 10

Saturday, a first rest day here!
but it's not really a total rest day...
as I was required to spend an hour of providing training...
and after that, visit of Antofagasta town!
we began with La Portada...
sea breeze of the pacific ocean..
finally, I can proudly say...
I am in Chile!
and straight to the mall after that as there's isn't much place of interest over Antofagasta...
of course, a proper meal is a must!
lime margarita as the beverage...
onion ring as the appetizer...
baby ribs as main course!
upon lunch and minor shopping for snack...
and all the way back to Mejillones...
did not have dinner for the day...
just a coffee and sea view...
 that marks my rest day...

Antofagasta de la Aventura Ep 9

finally, STG is completed!
and these two days are so eventful!
Friday is the day for load test...
however was asked to commission overhead crane for BFP...
as for lunch, this!
bibimbap again!
and after that, load test!
passed!
as for the night, there's an event held in Antofagasta...
something like a year-end dinner...
well, for your information, the town that I am staying in is called as Mejillones...
and it's 1 hour away from Antofagasta town...
and this is the venue of the event...
I can't remember the name but this hotel is nice!
I believe this is a high class hotel judging from its design...
and this is the dinner hall...
non-different that those in Malaysia...
as from the balcony...
day view...
night view...
as for the view, it's a 3 course...

appetizer...
main course...
dessert...
but the highlight of tonight is red wine...
Chile is known of its red wine...
to be frank, I don't fancy red wine but I give it a like this time... :)
cheers!
as for Friday, it's just clearing the punch-list of STG...
the highlight of the day is the dinner!
Korean BBQ!
and this time, I am not alone...
but with Posco mechanical team!
and that's not the end...
we had a 2nd round in one of their rooms...
according to them, this can only be found in Latin-America country...
well, it's nice to drink it with Cola...
but venue is switched to the singing room because his neighbor is sick so there's a need of rest...
and there's where all the fun begin!
drink and sing!
stress is released!
maybe is because of the gantry crane is done!
guess it's time to say good night for now...
as I am tired because I had a short trip to Antofagasta town again since today I am not required to work...
however, I will be working on tomorrow...
so let's hope the good thing continues!

Antofagasta de la Aventura Ep 8

finally, we passed the function test!
for the past few days, sleepless and stress!
and by why it is able to function totally rather than having the problem of previous days...
it is due to incompetency!
basically, language was the main problem but somehow, there's also another element...
uneducated...
well, I am not saying about whether are or aren't them are degree holder...
I am just saying they have no knowledge on cranes...
therefore I had been climbing up and down for uncountable times!
besides, had been spending days outdoor...
and of course with sunblock applied as well...
but I don't know why am I this dark?
but I am very relieved that finally it is running...
just that another pending issue is that the limitation of hoisting...
one final task to go for this gantry crane!
and of course, Wednesday, hot pot night!
well, the main focus is not the hot pot but the below...
bottomless soju!
basically, it's kind of stress drinking with the Koreans...
they have law on drinking soju...
one should not pour into your cup yourself...
it's shows that your dinner partner is impolite...
and also, do not let the cup of your partner stay empty...
you cannot drink alone if there's a dinner partner...
when pouring, if you are older, one hand...
in contrast if you are younger, two hands...
as for the cup being poured, if you are older, one hand and of course two hands if you are younger...
well. just a comment from me...
喝酒都酱麻烦... =.=
as for today today, we will be having the load test...
so all the best today for today!
buena suerte!
